Following Perth Theatre and Concert Hall’s successful application for Creative Scotland Multi-Year Funding, the Director of the organisation, Christopher Glasgow has announced the appointment of two new Associate Directors for Perth Theatre.
Morag Fullarton and Patrick Sandford will join Perth Theatre as joint Associate Directors from Monday 10 February.
The appointment of Associate Directors mirrors the structure that Perth Theatre’s legendary Artistic Director, Joan Knight put in place during her 25 years at the helm and is a return to the Theatre for Patrick Sandford who worked with Joan Knight as an Associate Director in the 1980’s. More recently, Patrick directed the Pleasance Theatre and Style Theatre co-production of Clare Cockburn’s Tennessee Rose in association with Perth Theatre at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2023. His critically acclaimed and highly personal self-written play about his childhood experience of sexual trauma, Groomed will be staged in Perth Theatre in the autumn of 2025.
Morag Fullarton’s production Casablanca: The Gin Joint Cut, the first show programmed by Christopher Glasgow after he took up the role of Director with responsibility for artistic programming in the venue, was a hit with audiences and critics alike. Her production Sunset Boulevard: The Backstage Cut will form part of Perth Theatre’s 2026 spring season.
The appointment of Patrick and Morag as Associate Directors establishes a group of creative associates including an internal Producer and Dramaturg and a group of emerging and mid-career writers and directors who will work with Christopher Glasgow towards restoring Perth Theatre’s full capacity as a producing house.
As well as directing Perth Theatre productions, Patrick and Morag will be involved in creative development work for the Theatre, scouting upcoming talent and work, coordinating readings, and providing feedback on the related output of production and other departments. They will be a sounding board for the in-house production team, making recommendations and contributing to strategic conversations about Perth Theatre programming for in-house, received and the venue’s touring work. They will mentor artists, providing feedback and advice on draft scripts and designs and shadow elements of development, residency and production periods.

“I’m delighted to welcome Morag and Patrick as Associate Directors for Perth Theatre. They are coming on board at a particularly exciting time for the organisation following our confirmed uplift in funding from Creative Scotland. We are working to deliver our artistic plan and build on Perth Theatre’s legacy as a creative and visionary powerhouse in the cultural ecology of Scotland and beyond. Morag and Patrick will help us in our mission to galvanise an inspiring collective of creative associates, giving established and emerging writers, directors and dramaturgs the opportunity to showcase and develop their skills. Our reprisal of the Associate Director model is a signal of our commitment to supporting the grassroots of Scottish theatre, and both Morag and Patrick are demonstrably committed to nurturing creative talents at all stages in their career. They will play a key role in what is set to be a very bright future for Perth Theatre!”

"I am delighted to have been asked to contribute to the creative development of Perth Theatre and look forward to collaborating with the existing team on realising the Theatre’s artistic goals in Perth and the wider community. Perth is lucky to have such a beautiful theatre - it should be packed to the gunnels!"

"I began my professional career in Perth many years ago. It is wonderful to return and discover a theatre company still primarily dedicated to serving its community, with work that celebrates, cheers and sometimes challenges. I am excited to be working alongside Morag Fullarton whose bold, feisty approach I have long admired, and with Christopher Glasgow who has a refreshingly clear and strong sense of direction for the Theatre.”
