Two outstanding female writers discuss their work.

The Fair Botanists by Sara Sheridan was named Waterstone's Scottish Book of The Year in 2022. Kirsten MacQuarrie has been shortlisted for the Vogue Magazine young talent award. Both writers are passionate about telling women’s stories.

Sara’s most recent book is a seductive, compelling, and fascinating story that tells the story of newly widowed Elizabeth as she arrives in Edinburgh in 1822, with the city abuzz with rumours of King George IV’s impending visit. In botanical circles, however, a different kind of excitement has brewed. In the newly-installed Botanic Garden, the Agave Americana plant looks set to flower – an event that only occurs once every few decades.

Kirsten will speak about her forthcoming book and her other work with writing women and their stories. They will discuss being a woman, writing about women, and telling women’s stories for future generations. Journeys through time universality of the human condition, Challenges faced by women then and now.
