Perth Concert Hall has been nominated in the Venue of the Year category in the MG ALBA Scots Trad Music Awards 2022.

The winners are chosen by the public, so anyone who has enjoyed a trad music gig in the hall can chose to show their support by voting for the venue on the Scots Trad Music Awards website.

Commenting on the nomination, Andy Shearer, Creative Director for Contemporary Music at Perth Theatre and Concert Hall said:

“We’re delighted to be nominated as Venue of the Year. Perthshire has a huge legacy of traditional music in all its forms, we are always seeking ways to celebrate and explore that and support artists at all stages of their musical careers. As a major Scottish venue, it is essential that we present and nurture the vast range of talent to be found in the Scottish traditional and folk scene and Perth Concert Hall audiences have been treated to a huge variety of gigs over the years from pin-drop acoustic performances to roof raising massed bands and everything in between. The nomination is a huge endorsement of what we do, and whatever the end result, we’re honoured to be included in such exalted company. We’d love it if anyone who has enjoyed a gig in Perth Concert Hall would take a couple of minutes to vote for us!”

Organised by Hands Up For Trad, the Awards give recognition to excellence within Scotland’s thriving traditional musical culture. Encompassing all aspects of making and playing from composing, Gaelic song, folk and Scottish dance music to pipe bands and a host of others in between, each year sees a lively and enthusiastic crowd enjoying some of the biggest names as the industry and audiences join to honour singers, instrumentalists, composers and songwriters.

Organiser and Awards Founder Simon Thoumire of Hands Up For Trad:

“In difficult times bands are getting back out on the road and filling venues across the world, bringing joy to people, and it’s great to be back to celebrate this and showcase all the work that has been taking place to fill people’s lives with music, whilst also remembering that we need to support our clubs and venues.”
