Following the success of their My Story, My Stage writing for mental health project, Perth Theatre and Mindspace are launching a new evening group to reach potential participants who can’t make the current daytime meetings.

The extra two-hour sessions will run from 17:30 until 19:30 on Wednesday evenings from Wednesday 10 May until Wednesday 28 June.

Created through a collaboration between Perth Theatre, Mindspace and writer Jane Archer, My Story, My Stage has been delivering free creative writing workshops since November 2021. Already engaging around 30 participants, some of whom have been with the group since the beginning of the project, the sessions give participants the opportunity to work with a professional writer to focus on journey and self-exploration whilst looking after their minds and mental health.

The transformational effect of the group has already been felt on both an emotional and practical level, forging strong friendships and giving several participants the confidence to make positive changes in their lives, as reflected in their comments below:

“Being part of this special group, sharing stories, thoughts, emotions, some happy, some sad, has made me realise how lucky I am. I have found the whole experience therapeutic as well as so satisfying. To have folk listen and give their honest opinions means a lot.”

“You made me feel welcome from day one. I couldn’t have asked for anything more. The support and advice has made me more confident and even helped me get a job and go back college too.”

Commenting on the additional evening sessions, Jillian Milne, Chief Executive Officer of Mindspace mental health charity said:

“The partnership approach between Perth Theatre and Mindspace has been transformative for the many people who participated. We are delighted to be able to continue this project and offer it during an evening to allow those people struggling with their mental wellbeing who may have daytime commitments to take part. We can’t wait to get started.”
