Fans of folk, trad, country, soul, pop, jazz and world music have much to look forward to this season as Perth Theatre launches its autumn programme of Joan Knight Studio Sessions.
Kicking off on Friday 30 August with an album launch party from indie, folk-rock and psych-pop band True Gents with Gordy Duncan and Alan Carberry, Perth Theatre’s popular series of intimate studio gigs continues on Friday 6 September with the trademark flutes, frets and skins of Flook, one of the most innovative and influential bands in celtic music.
Modern Vikings on Friday 13 September combines five of Scotland’s brightest and most creative jazz talents to create a fresh sound that is unique, bold and emotive. A charismatic dance caller will have everybody up and dancing at a Transylvanian Ceilidh on Saturday 21 September and two wonderful world-class guitarists Lulo Reinhardt and Yuliya Lonskaya combine their diverse influences on Wednesday 25 September.
Cousins Rachel Newton and Mairearad Green remember their great great-grandmother Anna Bhàn with songs, pipes, accordion, harp and fiddle on Tuesday 8 October, while Jill Jackson takes a deep dive into life’s twists and turns performing songs from her new album Curse of The Damned on Friday 11 October.
Jazz greats Martin Taylor and Alison Burns perform a musical love letter to the natural world in Songs for Nature on Friday 25 October and one of Scotland’s finest songwriters James Grant will play music to stir the heart and soothe the soul on Friday 1 November.
Award-winning fiddler Ryan Young brings new life to very old, often forgotten tunes by playing them in his own unique way and the season ends on Wednesday 4 December with a welcome return from iconic singer songwriter Horse who is taking to the road once again with her 8th studio album The Road Less Travelled.
Commenting on the series, Andy Shearer, Creative Director of Contemporary Music for Perth Theatre and Concert Hall said:
