Submissions Open for Perth Theatre Scratch Night

Got an itch to get your work on its feet? This is the perfect opportunity to scratch it!  

Perth Theatre invites you to submit an excerpt for consideration to be performed at the first in our series of Scratch Nights on Friday 7 November. This is a curated showcase of new material that will benefit from being seen by an audience in our Joan Knight Studio. 

We are looking for exciting new writing in its early stages of development. We will provide space, rehearsal time, a small fee, and actors, and your work will be seen by peers, industry professionals, and our local audiences.  

Perth Theatre Scratch Nights will give a platform to fresh new work currently being made in Scotland. Launched in collaboration with The Creative Hub and Lisa Nicoll Productions, three spots will be reserved for Creative Hub members. The Creative Hub is a membership organisation for freelancers working in theatre and media. It connects, nourishes, and develops professional creatives across Scotland, supporting their work and their wellbeing from its base at Perth Theatre. 

Details: 

This is an open call for anyone to submit works that range from 5-10 minutes in length.  

We will be looking to fill four or five slots from this open call (dependent on lengths of work). 

Members of the Creative Hub are invited to submit material up to 15 minutes in length to fill three slots reserved for members. 

We are looking specifically for written theatre texts; however, these can cover any genre or style. In this iteration, we are not looking for dance, devised, or physical theatre pieces. 

You will be provided with: 

• Time and space to work and rehearse with professional actors;
• A fee of £300 to cover your artist costs; 
• An opportunity to meet with our technical team to discuss any simple and reasonable lighting cues for your work; 
• Feedback from the audience and Perth Theatre’s dramaturg; 
• A follow-on pack with feedback and professional media documentation.  

How to apply: 

Please send an email titled: Perth Theatre Scratch Night Submission – (Your Name)  

This email should include: 

• A small bio of yourself/your creative team (150 words); 
• A summary of the full idea/concept that you are submitting (100 words); 
• Your text that fits within the prescribed timed limit.

Creative Hub Members should submit the same as above to lisa@lisanicollproductions.co.uk

Key Dates: 

Tuesday 9 September – Submissions open 

Monday 22 September – Submissions close at 23:59 

Friday 17 October – Artists are notified of submission outcome 

Thursday 6 and Friday 7 November – Allotted times for rehearsal with actors 

Friday 7 November – Scratch Night at 19:30 

N.B.: When allotting time for rehearsals, we will consider and plan for your need to travel but cannot guarantee any preferred times. Please make sure you are available for the above dates.
