Marysia Lewis graduated with an LLB from the University of Strathclyde in 1979. After her apprenticeship at Dunlop Gordon & Smythe (1979-81) she became a solicitor at Monklands District Council (1981-83) and City of Aberdeen District Council (1983-87) before moving to Ledingham Chalmers LLP (formerly Edmonds & Ledingham) firstly as solicitor and thereafter partner (1987-2008).
She was appointed part-time sheriff in 2006 and sheriff in 2008, before taking up her appointment as Sheriff Principal in 2015. Outside the strict parameters of practice, Marysia tutored in civil procedure in the Diploma in Legal Practice at Aberdeen University and latterly served as a member of the Board of Governors of the Robert Gordon University.
After her appointment to Peterhead, Marysia moved to Aberdeen in June 2011 where latterly she was one of the designated civil sheriffs. The duties of Sheriff Principal are of course numerous and a considerable amount of her time is taken up by the Sheriff Appeal Court.
Away from work, Marysia has many interests and activities including golf, skiing, and curling. She also speaks fluent French. Marysia was appointed to the Board in 2022 for a period of four years.
