Perth Theatre presents
A Piano Full of Feathers
The story behind Irving Berlin's greatest song
Written by Jane Livingstone
Directed by April Chamberlain
Musical Director Hilary Brooks
Ever met a song before? In this witty and touching new show, the world’s most popular song,
White Christmas, comes to life, taking to the stage to tell its incredible story. It’s a story that stretches from Siberia to New York, Saigon to LA and from Tin Pan Alley to a kitchen in Perth.
Featuring classics from the Irving Berlin songbook,
A Piano Full of Feathers explores the history and impact of the song described by its author as ‘the best song anyone ever wrote’, recounting its path to unmatched success as well as connections to dark periods of history such as the Siberian pogroms, the Vietnam War and racism in America. There are also fascinating insights into the golden age of Hollywood and the work and personal tragedy of legendary songwriter Irving Berlin. There’s even a little baseball!
This inventive two hander creates something fresh and enchanting out of something familiar and well loved. It captures both the wonder of Christmas and the magic of song and asks just what it means to be remembered.
A Piano Full of Feathers is written by Jane Livingstone, a former BAFTA Scotland winner who has written for stage, television and radio and whose previous work include episodes of the BBC’s
River City and the award-winning play
Jocky Wilson Said.
With live piano music.
